My Ex-boss

Maybe not really a lot of people know about this: My first job was working for the once famous Sze Sir (his acutal English name is Ben Sze which sounds like the Chinese of Mercedes) - "The Emperor of Tutors".

A decade ago everybody in HK knew who he was. Every student wanted to attend his course. He was famous for guessing what questions were likely to appear in public exams. He was second to none when it came to private tutorial in HK. He was one of the most famous millionaire.

But his career didnt survive long. He was arrested and convicted for violating regulations in relation to educational establishment, and he got a criminal record for that. He received negative publicity in the press, especially regarding his Form 5 education level. Branches of his school started to close. And he was declared bankrupt. Now he is prosecuted again in relation to fraud. And he cant even afford paying for a lawyer.

I worked for him after my HKCEE. He was a horrible boss. I hated him a lot. He was mean and bitchy, and very very fake. He was a super nice person in front of parents, who were always tricked to pay an unreasonable amount of money for courses that worth less than a penny. His personality is shit. He treated his staff as rubbish. I quitted the job after a month of inhuman treatment.

But at the end I still got back everything from him. I was once his student, and the fact that I did very well in my HKCEE entitled me a free 5-day skiing trip to Japan, courtesy of his school. I also got free cash to spend during the tour, as well as a cheque of several thousand dollars. Including the salary from working for him, I actually got back more than I paid for his stupid courses. So I cant complain much.

Sze Sir is a mysterious person when it comes to his religion. He always says the myth behind his tipping power is due to the fact that God always sends him clues about exam questions when he's asleep. He even tried using half of the lesson forcing his students to pray to God. It's like a cult thing going on inside the classroom. Totally scary.

Now he's broke. And probably he'll be convited again. He was a horrible boss, terrible tutor. But no one can deny that he was indeed a legend.
